Lights Up has been designing and producing stylish and functional bespoke lighting in industrial Brooklyn, NY since 1987. Our functional and ambient lighting is designed by founder Rachel Simon and nephew Tom Simon, with a focus on quality of light and quality of life.
Where and How Our Lighting is Made
All Lights Up bespoke lamp shades are made by hand in our factory in Brooklyn, with a selection of over 60 shade material options, including 100% recycled PET (plastic bottles) fabric for our exclusive print patterns, and responsibly forested wood veneers. Much of our line is made in the USA, some of it uses imported parts, while from our early use of antique lighting parts, mixed metals, and custom cold water finishes we have always felt responsible for our shared planet and our precious resources.

Our factory in Brooklyn produces all of our wire frames and fabric shades by hand using traditional equipment and new techniques.
Lights Up has always been headquartered in Brooklyn, NY. Our current factory in Industry City integrates facilities for design, inventory, and on-demand shade manufacturing under one roof, which allows us to offer a combination of quality, value and flexibility unique in contemporary lighting. We partner with other manufacturers in Brooklyn, the US, and abroad to create our distinctive look, but our fixtures are always designed to take advantage of our shade-making capabilities. We take pride in being a US manufacturer, and in our most important resource, the skills and experience of our craftspeople.
